JAMES DUTHIE CENTRAL LIBRARY

The library is open from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on all working days.  Photocopying facility is available inside the library. The library may accept donations of books, journals and other information materials which are found useful to the students and staff. Donated materials will bear the name and address of the donor and become the absolute property of the library. Loss of library membership card, library book must be reported immediately to the librarian in writing  External users (students / scholars) are allowed to use the college library by abiding by the College library rules.

Scott Christian College Library started functioning in the year 1893 in an organized manner as soon as the institution was established. It was named James Duthie Central Library on March 15th 1906, during the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Dr. James Duthie’s Service, the missionary Principal of the college who had a special concern for this college library.

The Central Library is situated in the left side of the Main Block. Total area of the library is 9000 sq.ft. The library has a seating capacity for 200 persons.

Now the Central Library has a total collection of 80,110books which include text books and reference books. The Central Library has a large collection of back volumes of Journals, These and Dissertations for the benefit of research scholars. The Central Library maintains a large number of Question papers of previous examinations of different courses are kept as reference which can be used by students and faculty members.

To support the academic programmes and the user’s requirement for current information, more than 90 periodicals and magazines are being subscribed to. To know the day-to-day information 10 daily Newspapers in different languages are being subscribed to.

The Central Library is a computerized library with standard digital software. Barcode technology is in use. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is used to search the resources of the library. E-information resources like CDs are available and the library is a member of INFLIBNET and DELNET, thus making available the facility of online journals.

Scott Net Hub is provided with computers with internet connectivity and printer to cater the needs of library users.

A separate section for competitive exam books is maintained in reading hall. Books in reference hall are used for in-house reading.Leading periodicals for competitive exams are also kept in reading room for general reading.

Since our library is one of the oldest with large number of book, outside students, research scholars and faculties of other colleges regularly visit our library. Ex-students and Retired staff members also can avail the facilities of library. Any members of the general public with acknowledgement of any staff members as guarantor, is allowed to use the library by paying a nominal charge.

Apart from the Central Library, every department, particularly the research departments has a well-stacked library with current additions of books and important research journals. The department library issues books and journals to the students of the respective departments. Students of other departments can also avail themselves of the facilities available in a particular department library with the prior permission of the Head of the Department and as per the conditions of the department libraries.

Students may profitably utilize their leisure hours by joining the Library Assistance Programme. Each student is expected to put in a certain number of hours of work per week. Students may earn extra credits through the Library Assistance Programme.

Best Library User Award is given annually, on the occasion of the College Day Celebration, to the student who has made the best use of the college library during the current academic year. The student will receive a copy of The Complete Works of Shakespeare.

The Scott Christian College library supports learning, teaching and research process by providing appropriate services to the academic community.
