Microbiology

Scott Christian College (Autonomous) owes its existence to the pioneering educational outreach carried out by the Missionaries of the London Missionary Society in South Travancore. The college has its motto, “The Truth shall make you free” and aims at providing liberal Christian education, which develops the holistic personality of the students. Scott Christian College (Autonomous) offers diversified Undergraduate and post graduate courses. Among the available Departments, the Post Graduate Department of Microbiology is a highlighted Self- finance Program.

Microbes are playing an important role in the bioprocess of all living things and maintain homeostasis of the universe. As the microbial activities are so diverse, the Microbiology program is a multidisciplinary subject, which will have the roots of Life Science, Environmental Science and Engineering. The M. Sc. Microbiology Program was launched in 2007 and its curricula is designed to enlighten the students in basis of microbiology to recent development by considering recent innovations and rapid growth of Microbiological approaches and applications in human and environmental sustainability.

This program is committed to excellence in education, research and extension with a total intake of 25 per year.

We have a well equipped Microbiology Laboratory with advanced infrastructure. The Faculty Members are well experienced in Microbiology Discipline.

As a noble service to the student community, the faculty members of the Department support 2 to 3 poor students in education.

The important academic activities of the Department include,

1. ‘Bioelixer’ National level Seminar
2. State level ‘Creative Scientific Competition’
3. 30 days Lab training with Report submission (Medical lab/Industrial lab).
